Nathan initially began his college studies in Florida pursuing a degree in marine biology. But over time, his focus shifted towards the fine arts. Looking back, there was no one moment that precipitated this change. In the pursuit of greater visual expression, he simply found a course that provided unlimited opportunity for learning and growth. Soon, as a student at the University of Utah, Nathan's efforts were met with success. He was a recipient of the Carmen Christianson award and a finalist for the Ann Canon scholarship. In 2002, he graduated with a BFA in painting and drawing. As a professional artist, Nathan was first drawn to the genre of still-life which allowed him to sharpen his technical skills and develop a customized process. However, Nathan currently chooses not to limit himself to any one genre or medium. Influences within the performing arts such as modern dance and elements of theatrical lighting design have provided Nathan with the impetus to revisit his work and explore new directions. |
